The Commonwealth Attorney's Office annually prosecutes crimes committed in King George County. The Commonwealth Attorney Office is staffed by one full time, elected Commonwealth's Attorney (Constitutional Officer); one full time Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, one full time Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, two full time Administrative Assistants, and one Victim/Witness coordinator/Paralegal. Funding is through the Commonwealth, County and Federal grants. The Commonwealth Attorney's Office also maintains an active Internship Program providing real-world experience to those interested in law and much needed help to our Office.


The Commonwealth Attorney's Office is here to serve you and to keep our community safe. We will use the most effective and up-to-date technology and courtroom procedures to ensure that all crimes supported by the law and evidence are successfully prosecuted. In the last eight years the Commonwealth Attorney's Office has successfully prosecuted thousands of crimes and obtained some of the largest sentences in Virginia history, in cases ranging from homicide, drug distribution, sex crimes and property crime.

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office prosecutes all felonies and most misdemeanors. The prosecution takes place in three courts: Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court. The Commonwealth Attorney's Office also administers the Victim/Witness Program. In addition, the Commonwealth Attorney has partnered with many other agencies to provide the most effective prosecution and service to crime victims and witnesses, including: The Police Liaison Program which provides assistance, support, training and education to the Sheriff's Office on a monthly basis as well as to the Department of State Police and the Magistrate's Office on a quarterly basis; and the Rappahannock Regional Justice Academy on a bi-monthly basis. In addition, members of the Commonwealth Attorney's Office sit on boards and/or are members many local programs affecting community safety issues and law enforcement, including: Rappahannock Area Alcohol Safety Action Program, Rappahannock Area Community Services Board, Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault, Rappahannock Council on Domestic Violence, Council on Youth, the Community Corrections Board, the Jail Authority, the Rappahannock Area Regional Justice Academy, and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Docket Reduction Team, Regional Drug & Gang Task Forces, Virginia State Bar Judicial Nominations Committee, Supreme Court Judicial Training Committee, and the Virginia Association of Commonwealth Attorneys, Board of Directors and Curriculum Committee.
